The ultimate guide to brunch in Manchester

Avocado on toast. Fluffy American pancakes. Bottomless Bloody Marys. A loaded full English breakfast. What’s not to love about brunch?

Manchester’s vibrant and cultural city centre is the perfect environment for artisan brunch spots and cute, quirky cafés, so it’s no surprise that these abound. All offering a myriad of tasty treats, with so many places upping their brunch game, we’re really spoilt for choice.

So here’s our round-up of the best spots in the city centre. We’ve got all your brunch bases covered.

Federal Cafe

Located in the Northern Quarter, Federal Cafe Bar has become a fond favourite for brunch lovers. With its quirky interiors and hipster vibe, get your camera at the ready because you’ll definitely want to post your food on Instagram. But the best bit? Brunch is available all day long. And they serve an exceptional homemade banana bread (we speak from experience).

This spot has been voted among the “50 Best Breakfasts in the UK” by The Guardian and the “Top 25 Cool Places to Eat in the UK” by The Times, as well as the “North West’s Best Brunch Spot” by The Sunday Times. Impressive, right? So it’s safe to say it has earned its place in our ultimate brunch guide. Serving everything from veggie fry-ups to eggs benedict and with a new colourful interior, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Moose Coffee

Moose Coffee is Manchester’s worst kept secret; although it’s hidden away off Market Street it’s regularly rammed so be prepared to queue, but it’s worth the wait. Specialising in American and Canadian-style dishes, it boasts an extensive brunch menu with plenty of tasty options for vegetarians and vegans. You have to try their famous fluffy pancakes - they won’t disappoint.

The Refinery

Located in the buzzing area of Spinningfields, The Refinery is a chic drinking and dining destination. It boasts a large breakfast and weekend brunch menu complete with delicious cocktails for a fabulous feast. They also offer a boozy Bottomless Brunch where you get unlimited Bellinis and Bloody Mary’s. And, did you know that The Slate Yard residents receive 15% off?

Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home serves up a selection of classic American dishes, from waffles with bacon and maple syrup to steak and eggs, and indulgent cake shakes. If sweet treats are your thing, you’ll definitely want to check out their cake counter, filled with extravagant and outlandish cakes from their bakery. Sugar rush coming your way.

Cafe North

This place is a great option if you’re looking for something a little cheaper. Cafe North serves up proper Northern grub - there’s no better way to describe it. It’s hearty, traditional comfort food. Their Big North Breakfast with Lincolnshire sausages, cured bacon, black pudding and all the trimmings is not to be missed.

Just off Oxford Road you’ll find Gorilla; brunch and lunch joint by day and live music venue by night. It's one of the best multi-purpose spaces in Manchester. Its brunch menu offers all the usual staples; we recommend the fried chicken waffles. Mouthwateringly tasty.

And to wash it all down? Enjoy a delicious cocktail or a gin from their in-house Gin Parlour stocked with the best gins from around the world. Don’t mind if we do.

That concludes our round-up of the best Manchester city centre brunch spots and your weekend dining plans, sorted. Because few things in life are better than brunch.
